El Olivo chef takes mallorcan cuisine to Russia

Belmond La Residencia has closed its doors for the winter season.  Now will commence the annual maintenance and upkeep to ensure the luxury property opens in optimum conditions on 24th March 2016.

But Executive Chef, Guillermo Méndez, has something else on his mind.  His creative thoughts are always at work and preparations are under way to take a taste of Mallorca to Russia where, on 19th November, he will be preparing a wonderful 5 course dinner at St. Petersburg’s Belmond Grand Hotel Europe, the city’s ‘grande dame’.

The wonderful menu includes some very Mallorca ingredients with which Guillermo Méndez loves to work -Soller prawns, Tramuntana lamb, local olives and olive oil, Mediterranean fish, oranges and lemons from the orchard, not forgetting essential touches such as Mediterranean herbs.  This will be a true homage to Mallorca, taking a very Mediterranean taste to wintry Russia to awaken taste buds to flavours of the sea, sun and Tramuntana air – all reflected both visually and on the palate in Méndez’s signature cuisine.

Each course will be paired with «Deutz» champagnes that have been carefully chosen to make a perfect accompaniment for the food.

Guillermo will be accompanied by his sous-chef, Salvador Bernat and together they will ensure that the cuisine is prepared and served as if the diners were seated in El Olivo restaurant -unfortunately, the sea view cannot be transported but it will be reflected on the plate!
